Visakhapatnam: State Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha has unveiled a comprehensive strategy to tackle ganja smuggling, pledging stringent measures against offenders while providing alternative livelihood options for farmers.
Speaking to media representatives after attending the CREDAI 10th Property Expo, Anitha outlined a multi-faceted approach to address narcotics cultivation and distribution. "Welfare schemes will be discontinued for those found involved in ganja smuggling," she asserted, underlining the government's resolve. She also proposed publicly exposing the identities of smugglers, drawing parallels with existing protocols for theft-related offences.
Anitha announced the formation of a specialised task force named "Eagle" dedicated to combating narcotics. The task force will employ advanced technology, including drone surveillance, to identify ganja cultivation areas. Alongside enforcement, the government plans to offer alternative crop options for farmers, reflecting a holistic approach to resolving the issue.
The Home Minister also urged CREDAI (Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Associations of India) members to expand their investments in Anakapalli and Bhogapuram, citing the upcoming steel plant and airport as significant growth opportunities. "Owning a house is a cherished dream for the middle class, and this expo has created opportunities for all," she remarked.
She further emphasised the government's commitment to inclusive policymaking, highlighting the introduction of a single-window system to streamline suggestions and implement responsive policies.
