AP launches largest green energy skill initiative by signing 2 MOUs

Vijayawada:Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh has said the AP government is launching the nation’s largest green energy skill initiative by signing MOUs with Suzlon Energy and Swaniti Initiative, for ‘green skilling’ in the state.

Lokesh noted that green energy is one of the major areas of focus for the state government and “we aim to create a total of 7.5 lakh jobs from this sector.”

On Tuesday, the MoUs were signed in the presence of the minister. First, the state Skill Development Corporation signed an MoU with Suzlon Energy. Suzlon Energy was represented by group CEO JP Chalasani and AP by senior officials like VB Rao (adviser), Rajendra Mehra (chief HRO) and Kamalini Sanyal (lead talent management).

Suzlon Energy would train 12,000 persons in key renewable energy project areas such as mechanical, electrical, blade technology, civil, and licensing. Suzlon would be establishing 5 skill labs in select ITIs and polytechnic colleges. Short-term (3-12 months) and long-term (plus 12 months) courses would be designed to offer vocational training for youth in in renewable energy.

Given their vast experience as India’s largest wind turbine manufacturer partner with over 21,000mw of installed capacity, Suzlon Energy would provide the expertise required for the youth of AP to be skilled in various areas of renewable energy and develop job opportunities, an official release said.

In the second MoU to further enhance skill development in renewable energy, the APSSDC signed an Mou with Swaniti Initiative to develop green skilling in the state. The trustee of Swaniti Initiative, Uma Bhattacharya, the state consultant, Siva Prasad, the secretary to School Education and Skill Development, Kona Sasidhar, the MD Ganesh Kumar and the ED of Skill Development Corporation, Dinesh Kumar, were present.

As per the agreement, over the next two years, the Swaniti Initiative maps the job requirements of the renewable energy sector in Chittoor, Nellore, Kadapa, Anantapur and Kurnool with focus on renewable energy. Swaniti will prepare a draft of the strategy in four months for developing skills in the renewable energy sector and formulate plans for its implementation. It will conduct a skill landscape assessment for the renewable energy sector.

Lokesh said, “Green Energy is one of the major areas of focus for the state and we aim to develop a total of 7.5 lakh jobs from this sector. Given the renewable energy push across the world, we would like AP to be a hub for green talent for the whole world. I am happy we could sign MOUs with the Suzlon Energy and Swaniti initiative. The outcome would result in widespread job creation for the youth of AP.”
