AP Minister’s convoy involved in accident, five security men injured

Visakhapatnam: AP women, child and tribal welfare minister Gummadi Sandhya Rani escaped unhurt when the tyre of the pilot vehicle leading her convoy burst near Busayavalasa village of Arikatota in Vizianagaram district on Thursday.
At the time, Sandhya Rani had been heading to assess damage caused by heavy rains Mentada mandal.
As the tyre burst, the driver of the pilot vehicle lost control and crashed into a van going in front. The minister’s car had been following closely behind but suffered no impact.
However, five policemen travelling in the pilot vehicle received injuries. They have been identified as reserve sub-inspector K.V. Raman, head constables P. Sunil, R. Ganapathy and M. Mahesh, and escort vehicle driver A.V.V.S.N. Raju.
Minister Sandhya Rani made immediate arrangements to shift the injured to the Tirumala Medicover Hospital in Vizianagaram. Three of the injured have suffered serious injuries.
District superintendent of police Vakul Jindal confirmed the details of the incident. He said the driver of the van involved in the collision had been driving negligently, leading to the crash.
