Visakhapatnam: ASR district police has destroyed 8 acres of cannabis plantations in Patapadu village of Pedbayalu mandal, officials said on Monday. The operation, which took place over the weekend, utilised cutting-edge technology, including services from the Drone Corporation of India and advanced AI tools to detect the plantations.

Till now, the drone survey team has surveyed 2,000 acres across ASR district as part of this ongoing effort.
Inspector general of police (IG) Ake Ravi Krishna, who heads the Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (Eagle), spoke on the detrimental effects of ganja plantations on a village’s future and overall social responsibilities. He and SP (Eagle) Nagesh Babu engaged with local villagers.
The villagers took an oath to refrain from participating in ganja-related activities and pledged to destroy any remaining plantations.
Krishna assured the villagers that the police department would provide support for transitioning to alternative crops. This year, Patapadu village has been selected for initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable agricultural practices for targetted beneficiaries.
