AP receives 4 national-level Panchayat Awards

Vijayawada:  Four Gram Panchayats from Andhra Pradesh have received top awards in various categories through the 'Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskars instituted by the central government.

The four are the Bommasamudram GP in Irala Mandal, Chittoor district (Theme: Healthy Panchayat); Nyayampudi GP, Nakkapalle mandal, Anakapalli district (Theme: Water Sufficient Panchayat); the Tagarampudi GP, Anakapalli Mandal, Anakapalli district (Theme: Clean and Green Panchayat); and the Muppalla GP in Chandarlapadu mandal, NTR district (Theme: Socially Just and Socially Secured Panchayat).
Commissioner of Panchayat Raj and rural development Krishna Teja Maylavarapu received the information from the Panchayat Raj ministry on Friday. This was announced here by deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan, who holds the Panchayati Raj and rural development portfolio. He extended his congratulations to the award-winning panchayats.
The Sarpanches of the winning Gram Panchayats will receive a memento, a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 1 crore from President Draupadi Murmu, during a ceremony at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Dec 11.
Pawan Kalyan congratulated the Sarpanches, secretaries and officials of four Gram Panchayats. “For the first time, Andhra Pradesh has achieved the top national position in various categories. This accomplishment reflects the unwavering commitment of the Gram Panchayats to advancing localized Sustainable Development Goals and enhancing grassroots governance,” he explained.
The Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj has been incentivizing the best-performing Panchayats through the National Panchayat Awards. These awards were revamped and relaunched in 2022, aligning them with nine Localization of Sustainable Development Goals (LSDGs), which aggregate 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), an official release said.
The primary objective of this competition is to evaluate the performance of Panchayats in achieving the SDGs, foster a competitive spirit among them and stimulate the process of LSDGs through Panchayati Raj Institutions, aiming to achieve these goals by 2030. Commissioner Krishna Teja congratulated the Sarpanches of the four Gram Panchayats, their ward members and others.
