AP scraps order on formation of state Waqf Board

Minority Welfare Minister N Md Farooq stated on Sunday that the state government has withdrawn the GO issued by the previous government constituting a new Waqf Board Committee.
He said, “Due to legal issues, there was a vacuum in the functioning of the Waqf Board. To overcome this, the alliance government issued a new GO, withdrawing the earlier GO.”
Secretary to the minorities welfare department Kati Harshavardhan issued GO-MS-75 withdrawing GO-MS-47.
Minister Farooq recalled that some people had approached the Supreme Court on October 21, 2023, against the manner of appointment of members for the Waqf Board. The AP High Court then issued an interim order staying the selection process for the board’s chairman.
The minister said the government led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is committed to “proper management and conservation” of Waqf properties and the welfare of the minorities.
