Awareness on Posh Act to be provided: Women Commission Chief

Kurnool:State Women Commission chairperson Gajjala Venkata Lakshmi has highlighted that the commission has taken note of harassment issues faced by women employees in various departments in the district. She announced that an awareness programme on workplace harassment, in line with the POSH Act, will be organised soon. Speaking at an event on Thursday at the collectorate, she noted that both State and Central Governments are implementing laws to safeguard women, especially in workplaces. She also discussed the Rashtriya Poshan Maah initiative, aimed at combating anaemia among women, children, and pregnant women. Under this programme, districts with high anaemia rates will be identified for targeted educational efforts.

Joint Collector Dr. B. Navya emphasised the need to address anaemia and underweight issues among pregnant women in the Kodumuru, Pathikonda, and Yemmiganur project areas. She stressed the importance of raising awareness about early pregnancies due to child marriages and taking measures to prevent school dropouts. Dr. Navya also encouraged women to address workplace harassment with confidence and solidarity.

Child Welfare Committee Chairperson Zubeida Begum reported a significant reduction in child marriages and urged pregnant women to utilise the nutritious food provided by Anganwadi centres. Women and Child Welfare Official Venkata Lakshmi, State Women Commission Secretary Vasantha Bala, Regional Joint Director of the Women and Child Welfare Department Rohini, and others participated in the event. The occasion concluded with a seemantham ceremony for ten pregnant women, officiated by the State Women’s Commission Chairperson, Joint Collector, and CWC Chairman.
