Visakhapatnam: Six villages within the Bheemili assembly constituency have been selected for implementation of a pilot project to generate solar energy.

The villages are Anandapuram, Gambhiram, Chippada, Reddipalli, Vellanki and Rajula Tallavalasa.Officials from the electricity department and the GVMC would visit these villages to take the project forward.

This was stated by Bheemili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao on Thursday. He underscored the need to enhance awareness on environmentally sustainable solar energy.

Speaking at an event at the Mandal development office premises in Anandapuram mandal, Ganta said the government aimed to provide solar power to each consumer under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar (Muft Bijli Yojana). He said the solar energy project would yield substantial savings to each family vis-a-vis monthly power charges.

District collector Harendhira Prasad said the programme seeks to alleviate the financial pressures the economically disadvantaged families face. Financial subsidies are available for installing solar units ranging from 1 to 3kw in each household.
