Bhogi festival celebrated grandly

Bhogi, the first day of the three-day Sankranthi festival, was celebrated with great gaiety and enthusiasm in Godavari districts like Kakinada, Eluru, Dr. B.R. Kakinada: Bhogi, the first day of the three-day Sankranthi festival, was celebrated with great gaiety and enthusiasm in Godavari districts like Kakinada, Eluru, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, East and West Godavari districts on Monday. Deputy Speaker and Undi MLA K. Raghu Ramakrihsnam Raju and Bhimili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao celebrated the festival at Peda Amiram village near Bhimavaram of West Godavari by dropping prize cocks without tying knives, as a mark of traditional sport.

The people of rural areas, as well as cities and towns, woke up early in the morning and lit the Bhogi fires. The people have celebrated the festival with their relatives, and different types of dishes were served. At Amalapuram, a family served 460 varieties of food items to their son-in-law as the new bridegrooms arrived at the festival at their in-laws house.
The elders and children gathered at the Bhogi fires, warming themselves up for the festival. People disposed of their waste items in the Bhogi fires. The children threw cow dung cakes into the fires.
The devotees thronged to the temples. In Vyshnava Temples, Goda Devi Kalyanam was performed in a great manner. At Vadapalli, more than 2,000 youths participated in the Goda Kalyanam programme, seeking the blessings of the God for their marriage.
Anaparthi MLA Nallamalli Ramakrishna Reddy participated in Sankranti sambrarlu programmes and distributed prizes to the winners of Rangoli, kabaddi, and other games at Illapalli, Rangapuram, Konkuduru, Kuthukuluru, Komaripalem, and other villages. The cities like Kakinada, Rajamahendravaram, and Eluru and towns have worn a rural look to mark the Bhogi festival.
