Vijayawada:Even as floodwater from Budameru Canal that inundated half of Vijayawada is continuing to recede, water level in Budameru stream is steadily rising due to significant inflows after moderate rains lashed Vijayawada and parts of NTR district during the early hours of Wednesday.

The rising stream has become a cause for concern for people on Wednesday.

Agricultural lands in vast tracts have suffered damage following a breach in Budameru stream at Kavuluru. The stream is flowing dangerously over at least six acres in Elaprolu and neighbouring villages of Ibrahimpatnam mandal, disrupting road connectivity to five villages from Elaprolu.

Authorities have expedited efforts to fill breaches in Budameru stream on a war footing at Shanthi Nagar in Kondapalli, where the stream developed three breaches, flooding Kavuluru, Elaprolu, Rayanapadu, Singh Nagar, and other low-lying areas adjacent to the stream.

NTR district collector Dr. G. Srijana allayed concerns about further floods in Budameru. She asked people not to believe in such rumors. She said the government has a foolproof action plan to tackle floods. She underlined that in case a flood-like situation does arise in Budameru stream, authorities will start issuing alerts.
