Vijayawada: Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan directed officials to complete the construction of the Kankipadu-Royyuru road by January 2025 and open it for vehicular traffic as a Sankranti gift to the people of the region. On Monday, he inspected the construction quality of the road which is being built with funds amounting to Rs.3.75 crore sanctioned from MGNREGA and the State Disaster Management Fund (SDMF).

He also instructed workers to verify whether the road was being laid as per the prescribed quality standards. Subsequently, Pawan Kalyan directed officials of the engineering wing not to compromise on the construction quality and to ensure that the road is laid with three layers of gravel, bitumen, and tar.
The Deputy Chief Minister ordered officials of the panchayat raj department to rebuild a 4.67-km portion of the road, which spans six km. This directive came after Penamaluru legislator Bode Prasad highlighted the hardships faced by around 21,000 people in Kankipadu, Godavarru, and Royyuru panchayats during the launch of the Palle Panduga programme in Kankipadu. About 21,000 people commute daily on this road which was laid 15 years ago but has since worn out due to a lack of periodic maintenance causing severe inconvenience to the residents of the region.
Later in the day, Pawan Kalyan visited Mallayapalem village in the Gudivada constituency and inspected the water being supplied to households by the Rural Water Supply (RWS) department. The government sanctioned Rs 3.8 crore to replace filter beds across 44 gram panchayats in Gudivada to supply potable drinking water to the residents.
In this regard, the government completed work to replace water filter beds at a cost of Rs 4 lakh each in 14 villages in the constituency. Pawan Kalyan inspected water samples supplied through the overhead water tankers to households after replacing filter beds, and compared them with older water samples taken before replacing the filter beds.
Excise minister Kollu Ravindra, Penamaluru MLA Bode Prasad, Gudivada MLA Venigandla Ramu, Avanigadda MLA Mandali Buddha Prasad, PR&RD director Krishna Teja, Krishna district collector D.K. Balaji, and others were present.
