Centre Green Signals Upper Sileru Pumped Storage Project

VIJAYAWADA: APGenco managing director K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu on Saturday disclosed that that the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of union environment and forests ministry has granted environmental clearance to the 1,350 mw pumped storage project at Upper Sileru in Alluri Sitarama Raju district. The project cost is ₹7,380 crore.

In this regard, the Genco MD met officials virtually and asked them to chalk out a detailed action plan for execution of the power project on a fast track.

“The Upper Sileru pumped storage project has been included in the 100 days’ programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Chakradhar Babu pointed out, asking officials to act quickly.

He called on officials to take up all necessary steps for proper and prompt implementation of the project under the guidance of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar and other senior officials.

The MD pointed out that the techno economic concurrence for the 1,350 mw pumped storage project has been accorded by the Central Electricity Authority. He said the EAC has expressed satisfaction with the initiative of APGenco to set up renewable energy projects towards meeting the environmental commitments of the centre.

Chakradhar Babu underlined that once pumped storage power projects go active, they can overcome issues of under/over-drawal of power that Andhra Pradesh has been witnessing.
