Kurnool: Central government's approval of ₹2,786 crore for Orvakal Mega Industrial Hub has ignited optimism among residents within Rayalaseema, particularly in Kurnool district.

Spread over 2,621 acres, this extensive infrastructure development project is set to bring significant transformation within the region, giving it a substantial economic boost. The project had been initiated by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in August 2015.

Additionally, a similar project is underway on 2,596 acres in Kopparthy of Kadapa district, with allocation of ₹2,137 crore, promising 54,500 jobs. The centre is also supporting development of Hyderabad-Bengaluru and Visakhapatnam-Chennai industrial corridors, both aiming to bolster the backward Rayalaseema region.

"This is a game-changer for our region," exclaimed K. Ramesh Kumar, a local businessman. "We've been waiting for an opportunity like this for years. It's not just about money; it's about the future of our children and growth of our community."

Industries minister T.G. Bharath explained that the corridor falls within a red zone, allowing any kind of industry to be established. The central funding is expected to attract investments of up to ₹12,000 crore, potentially generating around 45,000 jobs and considerably reshaping Kurnool's economic landscape.

The renewed focus on Orvakal has come with Telugu Desam returning to power. The state government is working closely with international investors, including from the United Arab Emirates.

Jayaraj Ispat Steel Plant has already begun operations, marking the start of industrial activity in the Orvakal hub. To support this growth, the state government is addressing infrastructure needs, such as water, electricity and transport.

There are plans to introduce flight services from Kurnool to Vijayawada for enhancing connectivity. District collector P. Ranjit Basha recently inspected the airport and discussed with officials enhanced facilities, including night landings and other enhancements.
