VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has written to leaders of all major political parties and MP’s from Andhra Pradesh, urging them to extend full support to the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan’ bill that seeks to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in parliament and legislatures from the 2029 elections.

Naidu wrote to prominent leaders including deputy chief minister K Pawan Kalyan, state BJP president P.V.N. Madhav, YSRC president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, state Congress president Y.S. Sharmila, CPI state secretary G. Eshwarayya and CPM state secretary V. Srinivasa Rao

He pleaded for bipartisan backing to ensure the passage and implementation of the historic legislation.

Describing April 16, 2026, as a landmark day in Indian democracy, Naidu said the introduction of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament marks the fulfilment of a long-cherished dream spanning decades. He lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his resolve to bring forward the legislation and called upon all parties to strengthen this initiative.

“The ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ is a significant step towards achieving equality and empowering women. True progress can be realised only when women have greater participation in governance, administration and law-making bodies,” the CM said.

Naidu emphasised that women have made remarkable contributions across sectors such as education, healthcare, research, technology, sports, defence, industry and services, proving their capability and commitment. Providing them with adequate representation in Parliament and state assemblies would further accelerate national development, he said.

The chief minister urged all MPs and political leaders to rise above party lines and speak in one voice in favour of the Bill. “This is not about politics; it is about national pride and the empowerment of our women. Let us treat this as a historic opportunity to honour and uplift women,” he said.
