Chittoor Cops bust snatchers gang, seven arrested

Tirupati: Seven persons involved in motorcycle theft and chain snatching were arrested and 332 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 25.74 lakh and three stolen motorcycles were recovered from them, said Chittoor police on Sunday.
According to police, the arrested have been identified as M. Chandrasekhar (32), R. Harikrishna (24), Dasari Nagaraju (38), L. Bhaskar (37), P. Bavajan (35), G. Lakshmi Pathi (30), and K. Pawan Kumar (27), all belonging to different villages in Chittoor and Annamayya districts. “Their main occupation was tiling and carpentry work. The modus-operandi of the seven accused was motorcycle theft and thereafter using the stolen vehicles to target women to snatch gold chains in the two districts for the past two years,” V.N. Manikanta Chandolu, the superintendent of police, said.
The accused after stealing motorcycles from Bengaluru, were using the stolen vehicles to target women in Chowdepalli, Gangavaram, Mudivedu, Ramasamudram, Palamaner, Rallabuduguru, and Baireddypalle mandals — for snatching chains and other valuables, said the SP. “The accused were wanted in 11 cases of theft and snatching incidents. Their scale of operation was wider, but none them had prior criminal records,” the SP added.
