Complete VIA New Terminal by June 2025: CM Naidu

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has instructed authorities to complete work on the new integrated terminal building of Vijayawada International Airport (VIA) by June 2025.

He was reviewing the expansion works at the Vijayawada (Gannavaram) airport on Saturday. Civil aviation minister K. Rammohan Naidu, state minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy, senior officials from the ministry of civil aviation and state government representatives attended the meeting.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure that the terminal's design reflects the region's rich cultural heritage. He wanted the design based on the traditional Kuchipudi dance form.

"The terminal building should showcase our cultural traditions and heritage. The interior designs must highlight the beauty of our handicrafts and arts," he underlined.

Aviation authorities briefed Chandrababu Naidu on the current status and progress of the Gannavaram airport expansion work. The new terminal is being constructed at a cost of ₹611 crores. 58.5 per cent of the work has already been completed.

The Chief Minister discussed plans to enhance air connectivity across the state. He underlined that the government is considering development of new airstrips at five locations – Mulapeta, Kuppam, Dagadarthi, Tadepalligudem and between Anantapur and Tadipatri. He sought cooperation from the ministry of civil aviation, emphasising that expanding air connectivity as a key driver of economic progress.

Chandrababu Naidu said “We are planning to introduce airstrips at strategic locations to improve connectivity and boost economic activity in the region. By expanding air connectivity, we aim to drive economic growth and promote regional development.”
