Vijayawada: YSR Congress demanded strict action against alleged police brutality on social media activists Peddireddy Sudharani and her husband Venkata Reddy. Speaking to the media in Guntur, YSRC district president and former minister Ambati Rambabu stressed that police detained the couple in Chilikaluripeta and tortured them for five days over a social media post. He termed the incident a grave violation of human rights and called for swift and uncompromising punishment for those involved. He expressed deep concern over the treatment of women and ordinary citizens by police, asserting that no one should endure such intimidation or violence for exercising their freedom of speech.

Rambabu urged the police to act without bias and ensure that those responsible face the full force of the law. Further, he criticised the police for filing false cases against over 120 social media activists. He claimed that the police have been harassing YSRC activists for their social media posts and refusing to take action against the offences committed by Telugu Desam supporters despite complaints, raising questions about the impartiality of the police.
Rambabu cited the case of former minister Vidadala Rajini, who had filed a complaint with the police on defamatory social media posts against her. Despite presenting evidence, authorities had not acted on her complaint, which proves the police bias and their selective enforcement of the law, he lamented. He slammed the TD for misusing the law by putting pressure on the police to serve their political interests. Rambabu claimed that, under the influence of Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Lokesh, the police had become weak and biased. He warned that if political parties control the police, it would damage the criminal justice system and weaken the rule of law.
