Depression in Bay Today; IMD Issues Yellow Warning for AP

Visakhapatnam: India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, has sounded a yellow warning for several areas of Andhra Pradesh following a well-marked low-pressure area over the south-east Bay of Bengal, which is likely to intensify into a depression on Monday.

The IMD report explained that the low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining east equatorial Indian Ocean has moved west-northwest and become well-marked. It is likely to continue moving west-northwest and intensify into a depression over central parts of the south Bay of Bengal on Monday. Thereafter, it is likely to move north-westwards towards Tamil Nadu-Sri Lanka coasts during the subsequent two days.

Under its influence, thundershowers are likely over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on November 25 and November 26. On November 27, heavy rain is likely at one or two places over Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district.

On November 28, heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places over Prakasam and Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore districts. On November 29, heavy rain is likely at one or two places over Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Prakasam and Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore districts of coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. On November 30, heavy rain is likely at one or two places over Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Anakapalli and Kakinada districts of coastal AP and Yanam.

Squally weather with wind speeds of 55–65 km per hour gusting to 75 km per hour is likely to prevail along and off some parts of the south Andhra Pradesh coast.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea during this time.
