Devanakonda locals reject talks on uranium exploration
Kurnool:Locals of 10 villages in Kurnool's Devanakonda mandal on Monday rejected talks with district officials on conducting tests to check the availability of uranium in the forests of Kappatralla. The related protests on the Kurnool-Ballari Road near the Edulla Devarabanda Junction brought traffic to a standstill for 90 minutes.
The district administration was represented by officials from the revenue, mining, forest, and police departments. They said the meeting would discuss the peoples’ concerns and objections regarding the mining activities.
However, just as the team reached the protest site thousands of villagers started to shout slogans and they called off the meeting. Strong police presence ensured the protest remained peaceful.
