Anantapur: Devotees of Lord Venkateswara spotted a herd of elephants near the first ghat road between Tirumala and Alipiri on Friday night, raising concerns and causing a temporary traffic disruption.

People passing in their vehicles found six elephants near the seventh mile elephant arch, close to the ghat road. They saw elephants uprooting the nearby trees.
This led to drivers stopping their vehicles out of caution. A traffic jam ensued, stretching to nearly two kilometres.
Following this, personnel of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Forest, Vigilance and Security departments rushed to the scene. They made noises that made the elephants get back into the forest.
Forest officials said it is not an unusual occurrence for herds of elephants to venture near the road during this time of year in search of water.
Officials advised pilgrims and motorists to remain vigilant while travelling on the ghat road, especially during night.
