Kakinada: An innovative programme was launched here on Friday by the Eluru district police in association with a voluntary organisation to combat cybercrimes and check atrocities against women.
In its inaugural address, SP Shiva Kishore said, “We will train students as ‘Cyber Sainiks’ to combat cybercrimes and atrocities against women. Students from various colleges are being selected and appointed as ambassadors to ensure public safety and raise people’s awareness about cyber threats.”
These 100 student ambassadors would potentially train and create thousands more in the future, making a significant contribution to public safety, he said.
The SP exhorted the students to create awareness on fraudulent messages such as those offering fake loans or rewards and educate people on the potential dangers. “If anybody knows about cyber fraud, please call and inform us on the helpline number 1930 or the special district number 95550351100. The cyber cell would take action to block or reactivate the messages," he said.
He also emphasized the importance of wearing helmets and seatbelts to prevent road accident
fatalities and advised students to promote the message through social media and other campaigning platforms. He advised people and institutions to install CCTV cameras in their homes and in the neighbourhoods to deter theft and prevent incidents.
Joint collector Dhatri Reddy said plans were afoot to establish a traffic park in Eluru to educate people about traffic rules and safety measures.
In the meeting, the newly formed Abhaya Team was introduced, with its mission to protect women and girls in schools, colleges, railway stations, public places and bus stands by spreading awareness and ensuring safety.
