ENC observes international coastal cleanup day

Visakhapatnam: Eastern Naval Command of the Indian Navy celebrated 39th International Coastal Cleanup Day in conjunction with mega cleanup activity Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.

On the occasion, units at Visakhapatnam undertook coastal cleanup drive at Yarada, Naval harbour/ channel and INS Kalinga beaches. An official release from Eastern Naval Command said approximately 1000 Naval personnel including families participated in the event. Additionally, outstation units across the ENC with waterfronts also conducted cleanup drives actively engaging local populace.
These initiatives are aimed at promoting cleanliness of the beaches and waterfronts while fostering collaboration between naval community and local populace. The event was also utilised to create awareness among local populace to keep beaches clean, safeguard the environment and inculcate the habit of respecting coastal lines which in turn nurtures marine biodiversity.
Eastern Naval Command has been playing an active role by undertaking various environmental initiatives towards preservation of the environment especially coastlines. Indian Coast Guard also participated in coastal cleanup at RK Beach in Visakhapatnam. Artists from the Coast Guard created a sand art work promoting a clean environment and a slogan carved in the artwork saying no use of plastic.
