Flights Delayed at Vijayawada Airport Due to Heavy Rain

 Vijayawada: Several flights were delayed by a few hours due to heavy rainfall at Vijayawada International Airport (VIA) on Saturday. The airport operates 24 arrivals and 24 departures of scheduled flights, mainly from Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai from 7.30 am to 10.00 pm.

As several parts in AP including the Vijayawada airport witnessed heavy rainfall, landing and take-off of several flights were delayed due to poor visibility. Some flights hovered in the sky for some time until they got clearance from the ATC.

“Following heavy rainfall, a few flights have been delayed and this caused a cascading effect on other flights either to land or take off and no flight has been diverted from the airport,” said airport director M. Lakshmi Kanth Reddy said

Airport authorities said though the airport was not affected including its runway due to flood water entering, flights were delayed only due to bad weather conditions for some time. However, one flight was cancelled due to a technical hitch at the airport.
