Flood-Affected Chintoor Returning to Normalcy
Visakhapatnam: The flood situation in Chintoor sub-division has come to normal. People who had relocated from the four mandals of Chintoor, Kunavaram, V.R. Puram and Etapaka have started returning to their villages and are cleaning their houses to settle down.
“Except for people of 12 villages located close to Godavari River, others have returned home,” an official said.
Around 38,000 families had been shifted to camps when the July 18 monsoon fury started.
The official said there is no water on roads now, except in locations like VR Puram, Sri Ramagiri, and Sritampally, which are close to the riverbanks.
Payment of Rs 3,000 to each of about 30,000 families affected is continuing and will be completed by Friday.
The main task before the administration now is to complete sanitation works within the villages by removing silt, garbage and other dirt accumulated due to floods.
The cleaning-up operations began on Wednesday. It will take some more days to clean up the villages.
