Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday struck down a petition filed by retired CID additional ASP Vijay Paul seeking anticipatory bail in the case of alleged custodial torture of Undi MLA K. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju.

A single-judge court bench of Justice V.R.K. Krupa Sagar observed that if a person's right to life and personal liberty were being violated because he was kept in custody then the police ought to take up more responsibility in discharging his duty.
The court observed that the allegations mentioned in the FIR were a cause of concern.
The court said that it would be incorrect to say the former Narasapuram MP did not have injuries on his body so he was not tortured.
The court referring to the Supreme Court's judgments in several cases made it clear that if the police officers who were taking up inquiry in the case were found to be accused, they should also be subjected to inquiry, and based on it, the plea for grant of anticipatory bail was opposed.
