Visakhapatnam: Four militia members of Galikonda dalam of banned CPI (Maoist) voluntarily surrendered before the Alluri Sitharama Raju district Superintendent of Police, Tuhin Sinha, on Thursday.

Thambelu Sairam alias Dombu, 25, Vanthala Kiran alias Sromani, Thambelu Ramesh, 21, Korra Baburao alias Siru, 30, all natives of Alluri Sitharama Raju district, surrendered before the police.

The police said lack of proper leadership in Galikonda to lead them due to loss of higher maoist cadres in series of exchange of fires (EOFs), surrenders and arrests prompted them to surrender. Widespread awareness campaigns and development activities in remote villages across the district under community policing also attracted them to join the mainstream.

The quartet was attracted to the schemes provided by the government to the tribal people.
