Vijayawada: Minister for excise, mines, and geology Kollu Ravindra announced that the state government would soon implement the free bus travel scheme for women. The minister flagged off five new APSRTC buses at the Machilipatnam bus depot on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Ravindra said the NDA state government is working to add 1,500 new buses to RTC’s fleet, and as part of this effort, 200 buses have arrived in the first phase out of which five buses were allocated to the Machilipatnam bus depot.

“While the TD government in the past took numerous measures to strengthen RTC and took care of the welfare of RTC employees, the YSRC government unscientifically merged RTC into the government leading the corporation to accumulate debts,” Ravindra said.

He further said that the government led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has once again initiated efforts to bail out APSRTC. Additionally, he mentioned that efforts would be made to enhance services for passengers at Machilipatnam RTC bus station and to run more buses on routes with high demand.

Krishna district public transport officer Vani Sri stated that of the five new buses inaugurated, two Star Liners will be operated on the Machilipatnam-BHEL routes while three will be operated as non-stop services between Machilipatnam and Vijayawada.
