Visakhapatnam: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has promised to extend relief efforts for hilly areas affected by landslides from recent heavy rains. On Monday, GVMC commissioner P. Sampath Kumar, corporator Molli Hemalatha and 2nd Zonal officials inspected the Vikalangula Colony and Swayam Krushi Colony in Zone 2. Commissioner said extensive damage was reported across many hilly areas in 29 wards, particularly within zones 2, 5, 6, and 8.

In response, GVMC has established 80 rehabilitation units equipped to support 10,620 residents displaced by the rains. During the visit, the commissioner noted the need to reinforce protection walls near Kommadi Junction, Vikalangula Colony, and Swayam Krishi Colony in Zone 2. Supervising Engineer Samson Raju has been assigned to urgently rebuild the collapsed walls in these areas, while Executive Engineer Srinivasa Prasad will develop proposals to restore disrupted water pipelines in Vikalangula Colony.
