Hyderabad: Hyderabad witnessed a grand display of devotion on Friday, as thousands of devotees flocked to temples across the city on the occasion of Kartika Pournami. Devotees lit traditional lamps and participated in special poojas at several temples.

Karmanghat Hanuman Temple, Gaddiannaram Venkateshwara Swamy Temple, Maheshwaram Shiva Temple and Jubilee Hills Venkateswara Swamy temple were packed with visitors from 5 am. Devotees performed and participated in special rituals like Satyanarayana Vratam, Deepalankarana and Koti Pushparchana.

Speaking about the celebrations, Geetha Reddy, a devotee at the Karmanghat Hanuman Temple, said, “I visit this temple every year during this festival along with my husband. It is believed that if one lights a 365-wick lamp today, it will be equivalent to lighting a lamp every day to the Gods.”

Abhigna Kaushik, at Ramkote’s Ganesh Temple, said “It’s magical to be here with my family and seeing the temple lit up to the lights of lamps.”

Authorities at temples made arrangements to manage the large crowds, and ensure a smooth flow of devotees throughout the day.
