Visakhapatnam: The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has called for immediate action from the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) to address the severe water shortage affecting 98 pharmaceutical industries in Parvada and 200 industries in Atchutapuram. These industries have been without a consistent water supply for five days, relying on private tankers to continue operations.
On Friday, G. Koteswara Rao, CITU’s Anakapalle district general secretary, visited the Parvada pharmaceutical industries to assess the situation firsthand. He spoke with workers about the ongoing water shortage and inspected the site where APIIC is repairing motors that had previously undergone repairs.
During the visit, Koteswara Rao criticised APIIC officials for their negligence and the irresponsible behavior of the management. He also criticized Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, saying, “It is ironic that the Chief Minister invites industries to the state under the 'Ease of Doing Business' initiative, yet fails to provide basic facilities such as water supply.”
Koteswara Rao highlighted the severe consequences of the water shortage, including the closure of industries, layoffs, reduced production, and significant financial losses amounting to crores of rupees. He urged Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to intervene immediately and order the repair of the three motors to restore the water supply to the affected industries.
V.V. Srinivasa Rao, CITU district treasurer and Gani Shetty Satyanarayana, honorary president of the Pharmacy Staff and Workers Union, participated in the event. They echoed Koteswara Rao's demands and emphasised the urgency of the situation.
