Vijayawada: Telugu Desam MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy said former chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had no right to speak on behalf of farmers, adding that Andhra Pradesh ranks third nationally in farmer suicides, trailing Karnataka and Maharashtra.
In a press conference held at the Telugu Desam headquarters in Mangalagiri, Chandramohan Reddy said, "Where is the justification for Jagan Mohan Reddy to raise the farmers' issues? Farmers have faced unprecedented decline under five years of YSRC governance," Somireddy said.
He added the former government made decisions that have severely impacted agricultural families. "The distress has driven our farmers to despair, with the YSRC’s five-year tenure marked by the closure of crucial agriculture departments and the neglect of irrigation," he asserted.
He urged Jagan Mohan Reddy to visit Pulivendula and interact with farmers to understand the betrayal felt within the agricultural sector. "The irregularities in micro-irrigation, agricultural mechanization, and soil testing have adversely affected the unity and productivity of our farmers. Ask the farmers, and they will tell you about the discrepancies in the implementation of these crucial programs between the YSRC and previous governments."
The MLA said, "Between 2014 and 2019, we spent a colossal ₹64,800 crore on the irrigation sector. According to inflation rates, the YSRC should have invested around ₹80,000 crore in irrigation projects, but only ₹30,000 crore was allocated during their tenure."
Somireddy stated that during the TD's governance, Chandrababu Naidu had enabled the supply of Godavari water to the Krishna delta through the Pattiseema project, aiding drought-affected Rayalaseema. He challenged Jagan’s administration to demonstrate any notable achievement in irrigation projects over the past five years.
