 Kurnool: Gold jewellery weighing 228 grams and valued at Rs 15 lakhs has gone missing from the Kanigiri Union Bank, and a case was registered at the police station on Monday night following the discovery.

Approximately 4,800 people had pledged gold jewellery for loans at the Kanigiri branch of Union Bank. Recently, a customer reported a missing gold bangle after repaying a loan. The issue escalated when the bank manager was notified, leading to an inspection by a team from the Union Bank head office. The audit revealed that 228 grams of gold, belonging to nine people, were unaccounted for.

The internal investigation found that during a period when both the manager and deputy manager were on leave, some staff members had turned off the CCTV cameras and accessed the lockers. Manager Venkata Rao has reported the incident, and Sub-Inspector Thyaga Raju stated that they have registered a complaint regarding the missing jewellery.
