Korean Team to Visit Bandar Port on Aug. 25

Vijayawada: Mines and Geology Minister Kollu Ravindra has said the works of the Bandar port will be accelerated and a Korean team will visit Machilipatnam on August 25. “This team will examine beach development,” the minister said at a Praja Darbar held at the party office in Machilipatnam on Sunday.

Speaking to the media, the minister said he received petitions from the people. He would be holding the Praja Darbar every Saturday or Sunday to address public grievances. Out of the 1159 petitions he received in the four public grievances held so far, 850 have been resolved, he claimed.

A majority of the petitions were for the development of roads and drains while 159 petitions were for jobs. A large-scale job mela would be held in Machilipatnam to provide employment to unemployed youth, he said.

“Steps will be taken to set up industries in the region. There will be ample employment opportunities. A skill mapping programme will be undertaken soon and a survey of youths’ vocational skills will also be held.”

The minister said a skill development centre would be set up in Machilipatnam. “A meeting will be held soon with intellectuals to formulate future plans for Bandar.”

Regarding the AMRUT project, he said development works would be undertaken under its second phase at a cost of Rs 55 crore. Apart from providing household taps in rural areas under the Jal Jeevan Mission, a 5mld water purification plant and a pond would be set up on 70 acres in the Chinnapur Gundupalem area at Rs 105 crores to reduce the burden on the Tarakatur SS tank. This would be completed in two years.

He said that de-weeding work has been undertaken in the drainage at a cost of Rs 8 crore to boost irrigation. Works such as construction of roads, filling potholes and road repairs would be undertaken under the MGNREGS at a cost of Rs 160 crore, he said.
