VIJAYAWADA: Human resources development minister Nara Lokesh has assured the family of Sk Abdul Rahman that the government will facilitate the return of his mortal remains to his native Chilakaluripet in Palnadu district. Abdul Rahman, who passed away due to illness in Saudi Arabia, will be repatriated with the assistance of the ministry of external affairs (MEA), as confirmed by Lokesh in response to a social media appeal.
Sk Abdul Rahman, a 49-year-old resident of Meera Saheb street in Chilakaluripet, had moved to Saudi Arabia for better job prospects to support his family and provide education for his three children. He worked as a driver at a shopping mall in Riyadh but fell ill three months ago and died on July 29 during treatment.
Following his death, Abu Sultan, the Kafeel who sponsored Rahman’s employment, was unable to cover the repatriation costs estimated between Rs 5 to Rs 10 lakh. Rahman's family sought help from Chilakaluripet MLA Prathipati Pulla Rao on July 31. MLA Pulla Rao has since contacted Nara Lokesh, who has assured the family that arrangements will be made to bring Abdul Rahman’s body back to Chilakaluripet as soon as possible.
