VISHAKHAPATNAM: A well-marked low-pressure area persisted over the southwest Bay of Bengal, particularly off the coasts of South Andhra Pradesh and North Tamil Nadu, as of 8.30 AM on Tuesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the associated cyclonic circulation extended up to 4.5 kilometres above mean sea level, tilting southwest with height. This system is expected to drift in a west-southwest direction and gradually weaken into a low-pressure area within the next 24 hours.

The IMD has issued weather warnings for the next five days, predicting heavy rain at isolated locations over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) and Rayalaseema. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also forecast in isolated areas of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, SCAP, and Rayalaseema on Wednesday. Dry weather is anticipated to prevail from December 28 onwards, following this phase of precipitation.
In the past 24 hours, weather activity included light to moderate rainfall with heavy spells in the southern parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as well as light to moderate rain across various regions of coastal Andhra Pradesh.
