Low pressure forms over Bay, heavy rains likely

During the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Thursday, Anakapalle district recorded the highest rainfall of 11 cm, followed by 7 cm rainfall each in Dowleswaram (East Godavari), Gudivada (Krishna) and Masulipatnam (Krishna), 6 cm each in Velairpad, Kukunoor and Kaikalur (Eluru) and Bhimavaram (West Godavari) and 5 cm each in Kunavaram (ASR), Vijayawada (NTR), Nuzvid (Eluru), Eluru, and Anakapalle. — Representational Image/DC

Visakhapatnam: A fresh low-pressure formed over west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts is likely to trigger heavy rains in the north coastal region of Andhra Pradesh on Friday.

The region comprises the West Godavari, East Godavari, Kakinada, Konaseema, Eluru, Anakapalle, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, ASR, Manyam and Srikakulam districts. A few places in NTR and Krishna districts of south coastal Andhra Pradesh would also receive heavy rains, an IMD forecast on Thursday said.

It said isolated places in north-coastal AP and Yanam would experience heavy rains on Saturday and few parts of ASR, Manyam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam on Sunday. Strong Surface winds with a speed of 30-40 Kmph are likely in coastal AP and Rayalaseema regions from Sept 6 to 8.

Parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh experienced heavy rains on Thursday.

IMD said the monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through Suratgarh, Rohtak, Orai and Mandla to the centre of an above-low pressure area over west central and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal off north AP-south Odisha coasts and thence move south eastwards to east central Bay of Bengal. The southwest monsoon is active over CAP and Yanam but weak over Rayalaseema.
