Make AP government hospitals first choice of people: Minister

VIJAYAWADA: Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav stressed on ensuring quality healthcare at government hospitals in AP, so that they become the first choice of people who are seeking medicare.
He held a seven-hour marathon meeting on Tuesday with medical superintendents, principals and top officials of the health department to review health care services and functioning of government medical colleges and the attached hospitals.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister expressed concern over the practice of patients looking at government hospitals as a last choice to visit and get health care. He called for preparing both short and long-term plans to see that patients prefer to visit government hospitals as a first choice.
Satya Kumar called for a change of attitude among doctors and health staff and laid stress on quality medicare and cleanliness at government hospitals. He proposed rating among the medical colleges and hospitals with regard to their performance to increase competitive spirit among them.
With regard to registration of patients at the out-patient departments of government hospitals, the minister underlined the need to ensure that the same doctor who attended the patient in the morning should attend to the patient after getting the medical reports in the afternoon.
He wanted doctors and other health staff to arrive at the hospital on time and ensure proper cleanliness and sanitation at the hospital. They should ensure the functioning of all medical equipment to conduct various tests, so that people prefer to visit government hospitals.
Satya Kumar criticised the previous YSR Congress government for failing to clear dues of Aarogyasri scheme even at the government hospitals. He pointed out that the Vijayawada government hospital did not get ₹23 crore due under the scheme.
