Man sentenced to 20-year RI for rape

Visakhapatnam: A 23-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl under POCSO Act in Vizianagaram district on Monday. The Pocso special court also imposed a fine of `7,000 on him.
The accused, Kalishetti Uma Maheswara Rao alias Uma, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a minor girl from the same village in Pusapatirega mandal. According to Vizianagaram DSP Vakul Jindal, the case was registered at the Vizianagaram district women police station in November 2022 based on a complaint filed by the girl's mother. Uma had been persistently pursuing and harassing the minor girl under the guise of love, eventually leading to the sexual assault.
