Visakhapatnam: Due to heavy rain, the water level in the Meghadri Gadda Reservoir in Pendurthi mandal has surged to 57.4 feet. Vizag district collector M.N. Harendira Prasad and MLA P.G.V.R Naidu (Ganababu) visited the reservoir for an assessment, as it is a crucial water source for Vizag residents. They assured the residents that despite the reservoir reaching full capacity, there was no cause for alarm, and the surrounding areas were well managed.

The collector highlighted that the reservoir's maximum water level is 61 feet. He emphasised that there are no concerns as the rainfall was recorded less in the catchment area on Monday and guaranteed that the situation is under control. However, he urged everyone to abstain from swimming under such conditions. The GVMC officials had already alerted residents of the 89th ward, underscoring the necessity for prompt action.

The district collector said that the irrigation, revenue, and police departments are ready to discharge water through four reservoir gates to lower areas. He specified that the reservoir water will be primarily utilised for drinking in the upcoming days.
