Visakhapatnam: The temperature drastically fell in the agency areas of Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) on Monday, with Dumbriguda recording the lowest at 11.4 degrees Celsius followed by Araku Valley at 12.2 degrees Celsius. The weather office said it is likely to fall further from November 15 onwards as a low pressure brewing up in the Bay of Bengal is likely to bring heavy rains to the State from Tuesday onwards.

Dr A. Appala Swami, associate director of Regional Agricultural Research Station, Chintapalle, said as per the Agromet Field Unit (AMFU), Dumbriguda in ASR district recorded 11.4°C, followed by 12.2°C at Arakuvalley, 12.5°C at Paderu, 12.8°C at Pedabayalu, 13.5°C at Hukumpeta, 13.6°C at G Madugula and 14.1°C at Munchingiputtu on Monday. A thick blanket of fog covered a few pockets of Pedabayalu, Chintapalle, Paderu, Araku Valley and a few other areas in the ASR district till 9 am on Monday, affecting the road traffic in the early hours.

The weather kept many indoors till late afternoon and elderly persons lit bonfires in front of their homes for the first time this year. Tourists had a gala time enjoying the early hour fog at Lambasingi, Vanjangi waterfalls and other popular tourist spots. There was also a rush at Araku Valley and Borra Caves.

The lowest temperature of 1.5 degrees Celsius was recorded by RARS at Chintapalli on January 8, 2023, which also witnessed thin ice sheets on vehicles and grass. Meanwhile, the IMD said under the influence of a cyclonic circulation a low-pressure area is likely to form by Tuesday morning. Thereafter, it is likely to move slowly westwards towards the Tamil Nadu/Sri Lanka coasts during the subsequent two days. The report said the system could bring heavy rains to parts of Andhra Pradesh between November 12 and 14.
