Movie Tree To Be Revived at Kumaradevam
Kakinada: The 170-year-old Samanea saman or Nidra Ganneru in Telugu, which became popular as “Movie Tree”, is being revived after it had got uprooted during the recent floods in River Godavari.
The tree got its name as it is a popular location and over 450 films have been shot under it.
Kovvuru sub-collector Ashuthosh Srivatsav told Deccan Chronicle that the Rotary Club and Forest Department will make combined efforts to regenerate and replant the tree at Kumaradevam in about 60 days.
While many people, including cinema directors and producers, have expressed their concern over uprooting of the tree, Rotary Club of Rajamahendravaram Icon has come forward to revive and replant the tree. The club already has the experience of replanting 10 trees in Rajamahendravaram.
East Godavari district collector P. Prashanthi took the initiative for replanting the tree and gave the responsibility to the club.
Club Charter president Teegala Raja said the tree had split into two before falling down. He underlined that they will chemically treat the tree with the help of experts.
Cine director Vamsi said he will again shoot films with the tree after its regeneration, and he has already shot 18 films under the tree.
