Tirupati: Nellore Member of Parliament Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy has requested the chairman of the National Medical Commission (NMC), Dr. B.N. Gangadhar, to allocate new postgraduate seats in the Orthopaedics and general surgery departments at A.C. Subba Reddy Government Medical College in Nellore.

During a visit to Delhi on Thursday, MP Vemireddy met with Dr Gangadhar at the NMC office and submitted a petition from the Andhra Pradesh Government Doctors' Association, Nellore branch. The MP sought the allocation of these seats for the 2024-25 academic year.

Vemireddy highlighted that new postgraduate seats in these specialties would benefit young doctors and enhance medical care for the underprivileged. He also noted that this move would support the development of the district hospital. The NMC chairman reportedly responded positively and assured that efforts would be made to meet the request.

“This initiative aims to advance medical education in Nellore and improve healthcare services for the local population. Adding PG seats in Orthopaedics and General Surgery at ACSR Government Medical College would represent a significant boost for both medical education and healthcare in the region,” Prabhakar Reddy said.
