Vijayawada: The government would table seven bills in the state assembly on Monday, one of which would aim to end the practice of land grabbing in Andhra Pradesh.

The Telugu Desam is likely to target the previous government for the construction of luxurious tourism resorts -- like the ones on the Rushikonda hills -- during the discussions in the assembly.

Official sources said Naidu aims to restrain land grabbings through new legislation. He had repealed the AP Land Titling Act, as was promised in the last elections, by signing the order immediately assuming charge.

The sources pointed out that Naidu had said land grabbings had increased during the previous government’s term. “The TD-led alliance government will put an end to the menace by bringing new legislation,” he had promised. Accordingly, the government formulated the Andhra Pradesh Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Bill, 2024. Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad will move the bill in the assembly.

Expressing concern over the ageing population in the southern states, Naidu had urged the people of AP to have more children. A previous law to discourage population increase would be dumped.

Instead, Naidu is planning to introduce legislation to allow those with more than two children too to contest local body elections.

Accordingly, the government made amendments to Panchyat Raj and Municipal laws. Deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan will move the Panchayat Raj (amendment) bill, 2024, in the assembly. Municipal and Urban Development Minister P Narayana will move the state municipal laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024.

Health minister Satya Yadav will move the Dr NTR University of Health Sciences (amendment) bill, the AP (Andhra Area) Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic medical practitioners registration (amendment) bill and the AP medical practitioners registration (amendment) bill. Agriculture minister K Atchannaidu will move the AP co-operative societies (amendment) bill, 2024, in the assembly on Monday.

These apart, legislators sought a discussion on the Rushikonda resorts. Speaker Ayyanna Patrudu would schedule this for Monday.
