Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday sent a strong signal to the state bureaucracy by shunting out one of the most senior officials, R.P. Sisodia, special chief secretary, from the crucial revenue (land administration, registration and stamps) department, following allegations of largescale corruption by some of his staff members.

Sisodia has been given the insignificant post of handloom and textiles in the industries department. The Chief Minister also stripped Sisodia of the additional post of Director-General, AP Human Resources Development Institute. Official sources told Deccan Chronicle that the intelligence department had made a thorough inquiry into allegations of corruption in the revenue department and submitted a report a few days ago.

It all started with Sisodia appointing a retired forest official as officer on special duty (OSD) in the revenue department. Then-Chief Secretary Neerab Kumar Prasad took strong objection to the appointment, which he noted in the file as a violation of rules. The then-CS also wrote to the information technology department to disable the provision extended to the OSD to view and clear revenue files online.

Sisodia, who was keen on utilising the services of the OSD, shifted him to a society that works under the revenue department. All went well till a few months ago when a group of persons whose land related files got stuck in the Secretariat confronted the retired official and demanded an explanation for the delay. Things went awry when some audio tapes involving domestic staff discussing about clearing revenue files surfaced during the inquiry, sources said, adding that the Chief Minister was furious over the developments and ordered for the punishment transfer.

G. Jaya Lakshmi, Chief Commissioner of Land Administration, has been placed in full additional charge in place of Sisodia while IT secretary Bhaskar Katamneni has been asked to handle the HRD Institute until further orders.

Mutyalaraju Revu, who served as former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s special secretary, and has been waiting for posting since change of guard, was made commissioner of the State Institute of Rural Development. K. Madhavi Latha, also awaiting posting, was appointed Rythu Bazaar CEO.

Other postings included M. Gauthami (secretary, AP Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institution Society (Gurukulam); Kothamasu Dinesh Kumar (director of Ayush); Dr K. Neelakanta Reddy (managing director, AP State Aids Control Society).
