Naidu to Review Polavaram Project Progress in December

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu to visit Polavaram irrigation project in the first week of December to review the progress of works. He is expected to release the schedule of works for construction of diaphragm wall and earth-cum-rock-fill dam.
Minister for water resources Nimmala Ramanaidu announced this here on Wednesday while holding a review meeting on progress of several irrigation projects, including the proposed work schedule for construction of D-wall and ECRF dam with the water resources special chief secretary G. Sai Prasad and other senior officials.
The minister instructed the officials to develop a website pertaining to the works of the Polavaram irrigation project so that details pertaining to daily progress of works of the project would be posted on the website.
The minister held discussions with regard to the preparatory works to be taken up for construction of D-wall. Later, he suggested the officials to take up the remaining digging works in the tunnels meant to connect both the right and left main canals of the project. He also asked them to take up lining works in the tunnels in order to complete them expeditiously.
On pending works of the Polavaram LMC, he instructed the officials to start the works as the tenders for taking up such works were finalised.
The minister has enquired about the progress of works pertaining to land acquisition and implementation of resettlement and rehabilitation package to the project-affected families with the officials.
He has also asked the officials to make proper arrangements for conduct of elections to the water user associations on December 8 and felt the need for proper coordination between the revenue and irrigation departments.
He also reviewed the works to be taken up on a priority basis like Handri-Neeva, Veligonda, Chinthalapudi and connecting Godavari and Penna rivers, Budameru and others.
