Sanjay, an engineering graduate, is the son of retired IAS officer and former MP of Amalapuram, the late KSR Murthy. Sanjay’s mother Anasuya hails from Recherlapeta area in Kakinada. KSR Murthy constructed a house at Mummidivaram as he was a disciple of Mummidivaram Balayogi.
An IAS officer of 1989 batch attached to the Himachal Pradesh cadre, Sanjay Murthy held various posts in the central government.
K Chandra Rao, a flute artist and Andhra University culture board member, expressed happiness over the appointment of Sanjay Murthy as CAG. Anasuyamma, he said, is a neighbour to him. Sanjay Murthy rarely visited Kakinada due to his heavy work schedules.

Notably, Sanjay Murthy played a key role in framing the New Education Policy. He worked in a host of central ministries.
