Nellore Cops Crack Down on Theft Rings, Recover Goods
Tirupati: The Nellore district police have apprehended multiple gangs involved in theft across the region, recovering stolen property worth over Rs 19 lakh.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Nellore superintendent of police G. Krishnakant revealed that a gang of six individuals with prior criminal records had been arrested for committing a series of burglaries in Nellore city over the past eight months. The suspects, from East Godavari district and Nellore, had formed a group to carry out thefts in various areas, including Vedayapalem, Nawabpet, Balaji Nagar, and Nellore Rural. The police recovered gold ornaments weighing 372 grams, 400 grams of silver items, two motorcycles, and electronic goods, totalling Rs 13,47,500 in value.
In a separate case, the Darghamitta police apprehended two individuals involved in motorcycle thefts across Nellore district. The accused, identified as K. Sivarama Krishna Reddy from Prakasam district and R. Shravan Kumar from Nellore, were caught near Sabari Srirama Kshetram in Nellore town. The police recovered 15 stolen motorcycles valued at approximately Rs 5,95,000 from their possession.
SP Krishnakant stated that special teams were formed to curb the rising incidents of thefts and recover stolen property. “The teams utilised technical intelligence and conducted extensive searches to track down the suspects. These arrests are part of a concerted effort to tackle property crimes in the district,” he added.
The district police chief commended the officers involved in both operations for their prompt action and investigative skills. He specifically praised the staff of Vedayapalem police station and Darghamitta police for their role in apprehending the culprits and recovering the stolen items. He also mentioned that the police are continuing their investigation to uncover any potential links to other unsolved cases in the region.
