No open drinking in Vijayawada: West DCP

Vijayawada: As part of visible policing, the NTR district police are conducting surprise checks in public places and increasing the number of police patrols across the district to combat open drinking and identify individuals with criminal histories.

Vijayawada West DCP (law and order) T. Hari Krishna told media persons that as part of this drive, the law and order police personnel, along with special QRT police teams and task force teams, conducted surprise checks at 18 locations, taking 138 people into custody and booking 97 for open drinking under their jurisdictions. On Sunday, more than 50 police personnel from I Town, II Town, Bhavani Puram, Ibrahimpatnam, Singh Nagar, Satyanarayanapuram and Nunna police stations participated in this drive.

The West DCP said that the department will inform the family members of those booked for open drinking and counsel both the family members and the violators. The DCP added through these initiatives the department aims to contain open drinking and the presence of people under the influence of alcohol wandering on roads and at major junctions. He further mentioned that this drive would be continued for a week in the city, with increased vigilance on Sundays and holidays.
