VIJAYAWADA: A police investigation did not find the presence of any hidden spy camera inside the washroom of the women's hostel campus as had been alleged by students at the SR Gudlavalleru Engineering College.

Eluru Range IG, Ashok Kumar, stated this to the media at the Krishna district police office on Thursday. IGs Ravi Prakash and Rama Krishna were overseeing the investigation by a police team led by DSP Latha Kumari and CI Ramanamma along with officials of the women and child welfare department.

The team did the inspection in the presence of the students and checked all the washrooms thoroughly but did not find any camera there, the IG said.

Ashok Kumar said the investigation team questioned the hostel and college staff and students and all of them have admitted that they did not come across any camera in the washrooms.

The IG noted that the police department had, for the first time in the state police criminal cases history, enlisted a IT team, the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) New Delhi, to probe the hidden spy camera case.

The 14 mobile phones, six laptops and one smart tablet seized from suspected students have been handed over to the CERT personnel, who would submit a report on their findings in the next three days, Kumar said.
