VIJAYAWADA: Extending a donation of Rs 1 crore from the NTR Trust for the maintenance of Anna Canteens, which are being relaunched on Thursday in honour of Independence Day, Nara Bhuvaneswari, the wife of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, on Wednesday described the project as a noble one, as it provides meals to the hungry for just Rs 5 per meal.
Bhuvaneswari handed over the Rs 1 crore cheque to the Minister for Municipal Administration, Ponguru Narayana, at her residence in Undavalli. Fondly recalling that the late Telugu Desam founder, and former chief minister late N.T. Rama Rao, championed the slogan of providing food, clothing, and shelter to the poor, Bhuvaneswari stated that she is supporting this programme, which was launched with inspiration from the late NTR, to alleviate hunger among the poor.
Providing food to the poor, daily-wage earners, and labourers at Rs 5 through Anna Canteens is certainly a commendable initiative, she said, expressing hope that the canteens will continue to serve them. Bhuvaneswari profusely thanked the State Government for implementing welfare programmes aimed at improving the living standards of the poor and wished for more such initiatives to be undertaken by the ruling government.
